  1. Oh man…I wish I could afford it right now. A number of years ago I was searching for a stallion to breed with my beautiful girl Mitsou. I knew exactly what I was looking for, but at that time there were only a handful of breeders in Ontario and Quebec, and most of the breeders from out west weren’t shipping semen. Then I found U-Guiness and i knew he was EXACTLY what I wanted…AND she shipped semen!! So I talked to his owner in the fall and said I was planning on breeding her in the spring and would be in touch. Well…in April, Mitsou slipped on ice and came up lame. But it was the strangest thing….her symptoms were constantly changing- I had my vet, 2 farrier, 2 standard bred owners and a quarter horse owner all look at her, and every time, it would be a different conclusion- which wasn’t the fault of anyone- heat & swelling continually moved around- sometimes in her hip, sometimes in her hock, sometimes in her lower leg. I tried EVERYTHING and treated her for every possible ailment, and everyone, including my vet were stumped. Months went by and she wasn’t getting better and I was losing my mind. I tried something I had read about years earlier- a human homeopathic product that was often used on dogs and sometimes horses. I bought some of the cream and slathered it on her leg….and NO WORD OF A LIE- I went out the next morning and for the first time in 3 months she was weight bearing and walking on it. I was blown away (the product is called Traumeel. I called the company vet and she suggested I give her the pills since we didn’t know where the injury was, but from that day she kept getting better, no relapses. It was pretty incredible. I never would have believed it if i hadn’t seen it. Anyways…I digress! I worked on rehabbing her for July and August and agreed with the vet that I wasn’t going to risk her injuring it again trying to carry a foal, so I let it go. The following spring I phoned the owner (I had let her know what happened the spring before), and told her Mitsou was doing great and I wanted to arrange to get semen shipped. I was DEVASTATED when she told me that she had SOLD him a few weeks before that…and the new owners had castrated him. I was soooo upset. Anyways…..here’s an interesting little twist to the story. My sister works for the City of Toronto for Animal Services but she was in the licensing division at that time. She was telling her friend the whole story, and she asked what kind of horses I had. And she had Canadians too! I asked my sister to find out what their names were….and I almost fell over when she said one of them was a stallion named Guiness.(I think she might have sold him or he had passed away by that time- or I would have had Mitsou down there that same day!! Anyways….such a weird coincidence huh?!- I live in Hanover, my sister lives in Acton and her friend lived in Woodbridge- and out of all the horse owners in the world, she had had the ONLY horse whose genes I had wanted to use as a stallion after searching for 3 years….well, it was just weird. Anyways…I have another girl now (well 2 of them) and one I am thinking I would like to breed. You aren’t selling semen by any chance, are you? Like I said, I would lovvvee to buy him, but unfortunately this just isn’t the right time. Please let me know if it is still possible to get semen shipped, and if so, what you are charging. Thanks! Patti
