It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to sell Derby.  Derby is a fantastic mare that I purchased for both riding and breeding.  She was bred last year via AI, caught on the first attempt and had a beautiful colt on May 14.  She foaled at home with no complications.  Unfortunately we lost him to a field injury at four weeks old.

Derby is a gentle and affectionate mare, easy to handle with good manners (can get pushy or impatient when treats are involved).  She is broke to ride, but we mostly trail ride so I would say green in that she knows the basics but no fancy buttons.  She has been brought back into work this past month, and is getting the refresher she needs but there is still work to do.  She’s sensitive, eager to please and forward which makes her fun to ride, and has very smooth gaits.  She needs a confident rider as she is not very confident under saddle.  No beginners or young kids.  Has never bolted, bucked or reared, but she can have a decent sideways scoot from time to time.

She lives in a mixed herd on our family farm and is used to a busy yard with all the things.  Can be hesitant to load in the trailer, just need some patience and a bucket of oats (lol) but once inside, she travels and unloads fine.  Has mostly been ridden outdoors but has been hauled to indoor arenas and spent a couple months indoors with a professional trainer when I first purchased her.  Up to date on trims, vax, deworming, etc.

Derby is an exceptional mare with a lot to offer, and I believe she deserves a home where she can continue contributing to the Canadian breed while also being enjoyed under saddle.  Asking $12,000 CAD but open to reasonable offers.  I am not in a rush to sell, I love this mare and I want to see her appreciated for everything she is.
